***Praying Mary's Song unto the Lord (Luke 1:46-55)***
46 And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, 49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me-- holy is his name. 50 His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. 51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. 52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. 53 He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful 55 to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

God is always after our heart. He wants it all. And in this journey with Him, we get closer to Him as He searches our hearts and reveals the content of our hearts so that we can surrender. And when we surrender, we trust more because we see His love graciously at work in us as He purifies us. You see this at work in Zechariah 7 as God speaks to His people and reveals to them the content of their heart. He reminded them of the years they spent fasting and praying and He had this one question for them? “When you fasted and mourned in the 5th and 7th months, these 70 years, was it actually for Me that you fasted?” (Zech. 7:5) Wow. If that question doesn’t wake you up, I don’t know what does. Is it possible that we can be “doing” for God for so long and realize that the motive of our hearts had slowly turned and became self-serving? The reality is it’s so easy to drift into selfish motives when we aren’t intentional about reevaluating our heart’s motives in living for Him. It can easily become about our satisfaction, our reputation, our gifts, our purpose, our [fill in the blank] rather than His Glory. It can easily become about making sure our days are better when we meet with Him rather than the desperation of meeting Him. It’s easy ladies because it’s so subtle. It can be easily perceived by others as noble when in reality God has this question in His heart. It’s imperative to daily pray what David prayed when he asked the Lord to search his heart and see if there are any selfish or wicked ways in him (Psalm 139:23). Father, search our hearts. Reveal so we can repent. And may our repentance bring us closer to you. Daily. |
